“In those days the word of the Lord was rare; there were not many visions.” – 1 Samuel 3:1 (NIV)
Have you ever heard someone say, “God doesn’t talk to me”? Maybe you’ve felt that way yourself—longing to hear from God but wondering why heaven seems so silent. The truth is, God does speak. He speaks often. The question is: are we listening?
In 1 Samuel 3:1, we find a time when the word of the Lord was rare and visions were few. It was a spiritually dry season—much like what many people feel today. But even in that silence, God had not stopped speaking. He was preparing to call someone who would listen. That someone was young Samuel.
Samuel didn’t recognize God’s voice at first. It took three times before he realized it was the Lord calling him. Sound familiar? Sometimes we miss the voice of God because it doesn’t come how we expect. It may come through a quiet nudge, a word in scripture, a song, a sermon, or even a child’s innocent question. God speaks—but are we tuned in?
And when He does speak, how will you respond?
Will you answer like Samuel—”Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening”?
Or will you stay comfortably curled up in the bed of your routine, ignoring the gentle tug of the Spirit?
Hearing from the Lord is a blessing, not a burden. It’s proof that the God of heaven desires a relationship with you—yes, you. And when He calls, it’s not just to speak—it’s to lead, to guide, to correct, and to bless.
So, the next time you wonder if God is speaking, pause and ask yourself:
Am I listening?
Am I willing to respond?
Am I ready to move when He calls?
Because the truth is—He’s still speaking.
And it’s a blessing to hear from Him.
